Meet the Girl Behind the Camera

Hi, I’m Hayley, the photographer behind GBC Photography. I never studied photography in a classroom , I’m completely self‑taught. I started out wandering cities with a camera, drawn to the honesty of street photography, before wildlife completely captivated me. What began as a challenge quickly became an obsession: learning to read light, behaviour, and those fleeting moments you only get once.

I’ve travelled to over 40 countries, and part of me wishes I’d found photography sooner, but maybe that’s why I appreciate it so much now. Every image feels like a chance to slow down, pay attention, and connect with the world in a way I never did before.

GBC Photography is simply my way of sharing those moments , the wild, the quiet, the unexpected, with anyone who feels the same pull toward nature, travel, and storytelling.

Where it began

I bought my first camera, a Canon 200D DSLR , in October 2023, but I didn’t truly start learning until I pushed myself to get outside with it in March 2025. That’s when everything changed. I began with street photography, teaching myself the exposure triangle, experimenting with long exposures, and trying to make the ordinary look incredible.

Those early days were all about curiosity and trial‑and‑error, but they built the foundation for everything I do now. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a passion, and eventually into GBC Photography.

I started travelling with my camera

In April 2025, I upgraded to a Canon R10 mirrorless and took it with me while inter‑railing across Italy throughout April and May. I wanted to push myself, chase inspiring moments and see what I could create with a camera that finally matched my ambition. Italy blew me away, the culture, the food, the lifestyle, the colours, the architecture, the artwork. It all fed into my creativity and made me fall even deeper in love with photography.

Wildlife

I unlocked a completely new passion when I discovered wildlife photography. It’s challenging, unpredictable and sometimes frustrating — but it’s also the most rewarding thing I’ve ever thrown myself into.

During my dream trip to Japan in March 2026, I found myself in absolute awe of everything: the scenery, the culture, the atmosphere… and then the wildlife. That was the moment it clicked. I’d already been practising wildlife photography for around eight months, but Japan made me fall in love with it on a whole new level.

Not long after I got home, I headed to RSPB Bempton Cliffs for a seabird photography course. I then travelled to Skomer Island in May 2026 with my little sister. Two places that pushed my skills even further. Along the way I’ve taught myself new techniques, including creating composites like my puffin‑in‑flight image, and each step has opened up another layer of creativity I didn’t know I had.

Wildlife photography has become more than a hobby, it’s a world I feel lucky to be part of.
